Algorithms and Data Structures: COMPSCI 220 Semester 1, City Campus

Test and Exams

The test is worth 12% of the course marks and is scheduled for Thursday, 14 April, 2016 in the usual lecture time (4:05 - 4:55 pm; Engineering 401-401)

The test will consist of multiple choice questions.

The 2014 test is here, the 2013 test here, and the 2012 test is here. Note that the times at which tests are held during semester differ a little, so if it looks unfamiliar it just might be, and there's probably the odd question with no correct answer, or more than one correct answer...

The final exam is worth 60% of the course marks. As usual, the exam date and venue will be advised by the university via your personalised exam timetable.

Past Exams

Questions for years since 2001 can be found under http://examdb.auckland.ac.nz.

Note that we do not provide wholesale sample answers or solutions to past tests or exams. Why? Simple. We believe in our students' ability to work out answers for themselves. We don't believe that simply memorising answers to questions is a good use of anyone's brain, let alone yours. It's boring! Making solutions available encourages taking the shortcut to the solution without actually understanding the problem behind the question. It's quite natural to get stuck on questions, and when that happens, there's help: the class forum, your tutors, and last but not least also we as your lecturers. However, we want to make sure that if you get stuck, you come away not just with a solution, but a solution you understand.

Note also that past tests and exams (especially 2008 and earlier) may contain questions relating to material no longer taught in COMPSCI220. We also want to ask questions you can solve in a reasonable amount of time without necessarily owning the textbook (which is now no longer mandatory). For this reason, we've begun a serious clean-up of the question database in S1, 2013, so expect plenty of new questions!
