Motion Detection for Video Surveillance
Went to tamaki, attended the first BTech meeting which is about project allocation. Assigned the project provided by Compucon NZ. Also getting familiar with other BTech student.
Went to tamaki, attended the first seminar with Prof. Reinhard.
Read a book
Attended the seminar invited by TN Chen, have a chat and discussed about the project. Title: Motion Detection for Video Surveillance.
Being told to write a report every study week to TN Chan
Had a first meeting with Prof. Reinhard to discuss the project. He introduced a master student Zhengping Wang to help me with my project. Brought back the IPVC camera without Ethernet power box, waiting for reply.
First BTech report to TN Chan.
Regular meeting with Prof. Reinhard. we (Professor Reinhard and me) discussed about human motion detection method and different situation by using a example (people holding up his hands).
Silhouette detection part supported by Zhengping Wang. He provided his source code for the foreground detection. Being told to get the code on the next month
I have read a chapter about optical flow in Reinhard’s book. It is far beyond for my project, but it is very helpful to understanding the content of computer vision. This week I was starting to learn OpenCV. I attended two mechanical eginnering lectures presented by Professor Reinhard which are taught image processing. I also attended a two-hour tutorial to learn how to set up OpenCV environment and use basic function of OpenCV library. I have already set up OpenCV in my macbook, and then write a simple program to using my macbook’s camera. Professor Reinhard has already give me the ethernet power cable, but I have not got my lab access, maybe I will try to install it next week if I get the swipe card.

I have already fill in a form of lab access card. If everything is ok, I will get the card on next Thursday. Still waiting for the lab access.

Got Zhengping's code. Starting to learn the implementation of approximate median filtering for the background subtraction method.

Trying to recording the sample video but did not successed due to the software problem

Success to record the video by using the NVR software.
Testing the video by using the GMM method, shows a not good result

motion detection is just for detect moving object in front of the video, but my work is much more complicated than just detect moving object.
