Vector Limited is an Auckland based multi-network infrastructure company. Vector was formed in 1999 from Mercury Energy when new government regulations were introduced, splitting up electricity distribution and electricity generation businesses.

Electricity
Electricity distribution is Vector's primary role. They own and operate the electricity distribution network in the greater-Auckland area and they are also the largest power distribution company in the country.

Gas
Vector supplies gas to over 150,000 customers across the North Island of New Zealand, using their 9,300 kilometre long gas network.

Telecommunications
Vector owns their own fibre-optic telecommunication networks in Auckland and Wellington. They also have a nation-wide fibre network that has access points in other major cities, such as Hamilton, Tauranga and Christchurch.

Recently Vector, like other distribution networks, has begun to investigate an optimisation challenge that is based on over-supply with solar panel systems. This is where the research question of my project comes from.
