• Learn/Familiar with the existing code from AARN’s previous work on AS2.
• Restructure the program to make it clearer.
• The current program does not work so one task is to fix the program and get it running
• Connect to EDIS Database.  This requires integrating the program with Message Queue in the EDIS for window system, reading and writing data from the Message Queue as well as the database.

The existing AS2 program does not run and above that, it was not properly designed. 

• Code from different layers is mixed together.
• Relationships between classes are ambiguous.
• Most variables are declared as global

Based on the problems stated above, we decided to redesign the whole program.  The structure now is very clear and efficient.  Please see the end of semester report for more detail.

A large amount of time was spent on redesigning and implementing the AS2 program and it became the core work of the first part of the project.
