PROGRESS

  Below is a record of our progress with the project. Please note that the Sessions, numbered from 1 to 16 refer to fortnightly meetings with our project supervisor, Mr. TN Chan. At these meetings we discussed project work completed by each team member . The rest of the dates are milestones in the completion of our project.

                                                                                           FEBRUARY

                 Session 1: Sunday, 29 February 2004.

-         First meeting between the group members and project supervisor.

-         We were given a brief overview of CNZ: its business practices, objectives and also a description of the kind of services

-         We were also presented with the scope of research topics that ranged from    Computer Hardware and Software Platforms to Web services technologies.  

-         Each of us selected a technology sector to research, were given the scope of the research activity and made the arrangements for the next meeting.

                                                                         MARCH

  • Thursday, 4 March 2004.

Reports on DDR2 Memory, Windows 64 and Web Services Technologies: J2EE, all versions 0.1, were submitted.

  • Session 2: Sunday, 7 March 2004.

-         Presentations on DDR2 Memory, Windows 64 and J2EE were made.

-         Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring more clarification and a greater level of detail were identified.

-         A single format for all the reports was agreed upon.

-         Work for the next period of two weeks was allocated.

 

  • Thursday, 11 March 2004.

        Reports on DDR2 Memory, Windows 64 and Web Services Technologies: J2EE, all versions 0.2, were submitted, with the relevant clarifications, details and changes to format.  

  • Thursday, 18 March 2004.

  Reports on Memory performance properties, Linux 64 and Web Services Technologies: Back-end systems, all versions 0.1, were submitted.

  • Friday, 19 March 2004.

-         Group members met and reviewed a report on iSCSI v 0.2

-         We outlined some suggestions to improve the report and separate it into one main report with two sub- papers.

 

  • Session 3: Sunday, 21 March 20.

-         Presentations on Memory performance properties, Linux 64 and WS Back-end systems were made.

-         Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring more clarification and a greater level of detail were identified.

-         Work for the next period of two weeks was allocated.

 

  • Thursday, 25 March 2004.

Clarifications to previous reports submitted.

 

  • Tuesday, 30 March 2004.   

-    I met with Alistair McColl of Azul, Kevin Slade of Kiwisoft and TN Chan of CNZ to discuss my involvement in the software programming section of the project.

-         We decided that I would go into Modern Technology twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday. This was to obtain the information for the reports I was to produce, that I’d write at home.

                                                                                      APRIL

  • Thursday, 1 April 2004.

Reports on iSCSI v 0.3, AMD 64 Processors v 0.1 and Web Services Technologies: Front-end systems were submitted.

 

  • Session 4: Sunday, 4 April 2004.

-         Presentations on iSCSI, AMD 64 and WS Front-end systems were made.

-         Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring more clarification and a greater level of detail were identified.

-         Work for the next period of two weeks was allocated.

 

  • Tuesday, 6 April 2004.

-         Officially began the AZUL part of the project.

-     Met with Kevin and learned about CVS, how it was deployed at AZUL and what we hoped to achieve in the long run.

  • Thursday, 8 April 2004.

Submitted reports on CVS and AZUL – CVS hardware and software deployment at AZUL, the AZUL modules, project layout and the AZUL plan for long-term control.

 

  • Tuesday, 13 April 2004.

Submitted a report on the Draft CVS Procedures.

 

  • Friday, 16 April 2004.

Submitted a report on Advanced CVS Procedures.

 

 

·         Session 5: Sunday, 18 April 2004.  

-          Presentations on iSCSI Systems tests, 64 bit Applications and AZUL & CVS were made.

-          Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring clarification, elaboration or rectification for the next version were identified.

-          Work for the next fortnight was allocated.

                                                                              MAY 

·         Session 6: Sunday, 2 May 2004.  

-          Presentations on AZUL Unit Testing, 64 bit and Debian Linux Distributions and iSCSI and Wireless LANs were made.

-          Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring clarification, elaboration or rectification for the next version were identified.

-          Work for the next fortnight was allocated.

-          Since the work shifted from writing reports to the documentation of AZUL code, I was able to do most of my work from home, going into Modern Tech only to go over my documentation reports with Kevin Slade, only on Tuesdays.

 

·         Tuesday, 4 May 2004.

Submitted my first Documentation report.

·         Thursday, 6 May 2004.

 Submitted my second Documentation report. 

·         Friday, 14 May 2004.  

Submitted my third Documentation report as well as the AZUL Documentation Report Template. 

·         Session 7 Sunday, 16 May 2004.  

-          Presentations on Firewall and Mail Processor as well as Wireless LANs were made.

-          Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring clarification, elaboration or rectification for the next version were identified.

-          Work for the next fortnight was allocated.

 

·         Monday, 17 May 2004.  

Submitted slides outlining my project work for the Tech Briefing, to be held later on during the week.

  •  Thursday, 20 May 2004.

           Attended the Technology Briefing held by CNZ at the North Harbour Stadium, Albany.

·  Session 8: Sunday, 23 May 2004.  

-          Presentations on reports on the Tech Briefing were made.

-          Work for the next fortnight was allocated- preparation of the end-of-semester presentation and reports.

-          Exam break for the month of June with our next session on Sunday, 27 June 2004.

                                                                                                 JUNE

·          Tuesday, 01 June 2004.

       Submitted my BTech end-of-semester report for company approval.

·          Monday, 07 June 2004.

        Submitted my fourth and fifth Documentation Report.

·          Session 9: Sunday, 27 June 2004.      

-          Meeting with Mr Chan, our project supervisor, to discuss a change in direction for all three of us, keeping in mind the suggestions made by the BTech team.

-          My work will now involve Delphi programming, debugging as well as functional documentation using Crystal reports and I will report directly to the Software Architect, Alistair McColl. Fei will continue with the Documentation of Azul that I had begun while Jeff will become involved in a Linux project the company is currently undertaking.

·         Tuesday, 29 June 2004.  

Went in to Modern Technology to discuss my work with Alistair McColl and Aaron Graham, the lead programmer.

·         Tuesday, 6 July 2004.  

 Sat in on a meeting between Fei and Kevin, in order to facilitate Fei's smooth transition into my place in Quality Assurance.

·         Thursday, 8 July 2004.  

Familiarised myself with Crystal Reporting using the Documentation and Tutorials that accompany the program.

·         Friday, 9 July 2004.  

 Learned about the Azul Databases, as well as certain key points in Crystal, from Aaron. 

 ·        Session 10: Sunday, 11 July 2004.

-          Presentations on D-Unit Testing, Crystal Reporting and SSH Technology were made.

-          Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring clarification, elaboration or rectification for the next version were identified.

-          Work for the next fortnight was allocated.

 

·    Wednesday, 14 July 2004.  

Studied existing Azul Customer reports and rebuilt a few from scratch.

·    Thursday, 22 July 2004.  

Submitted reports on Crystal Reporting.

·    Session 11: Sunday, 25 July 2004. 

-          Presentations on Unit Testing at Azul, Azul RMS and Internet Email protocols were made.

-          Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring clarification, elaboration or rectification for the next version were identified.

-          Work for the next fortnight was allocated. 

 

·         Tuesday, 27 July 2004.  

Worked together with Alistair to develop a standard layout for the Azul Reports

                                                                                AUGUST

 

·  Tuesday, 3 August 2004

        Developed and submitted a report on the Azul database, with proposed changes.

·         Friday, 6 August 2004.  

Submitted a Work Schedule for the remainder of my project, outlining the number of reports I would complete by the end of semester.

 ·        Session 12: Sunday, 8 August 2004. 

-          Presentations on Azul Scheme for Unit Test Development,  the Azul Database with Proposed Changes and Email features and technologies were made.

-          Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring clarification, elaboration or rectification for the next version were identified.

-          Work for the next fortnight was allocated. 

 ·  Tuesday, 10 August 2004.  

Began concentrating solely on updating the existing Azul database, completing 8- 10 reports a day, as per the schedule devised.

 ·  Tuesday, 17 August 2004.  

Continued consistently completing the scheduled number of reports, besides working with Alistair to develop a naming convention for the new report database.

·  Session 13: Sunday, 22 August 2004. 

-          Presentations on Azul Scheme for Unit Test Development, Templates & Schemes for Azul Software Development as well as Email Product Comparisons, and its relation to the OSI 7 - layer model were made.

-          Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring clarification, elaboration or rectification for the next version were identified.

-          Work for the next fortnight was allocated. 

 

 ·  Tuesday, 24 August 2004.  

Continued consistently completing the scheduled number of reports and finalised the various templates that I was developing for Azul.

 ·  Tuesday, 31 August 2004.  

Continued consistently completing the scheduled number of reports at the Azul office in Albany.

 ·  Tuesday, 7 September 2004.  

Continued consistently completing the scheduled number of reports at the Azul office in Albany.

·  Session 14: Sunday, 5 September 2004.         

-          Presentations on Azul Scheme for Unit Test Development, Azul Client Reports and Internet Email protocol relation to OSI model were made.

-          Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring clarification, elaboration or rectification for the next version were identified.

-          Work for the next fortnight was allocated. 

 ·  Tuesday, 14 September 2004.  

Was advised by Aaron and Alistair that the team had decided a change over from Crystal 9 to Delphi Report builder had been decided on. I proceeded to familiarise myself with Report Builder that day and built a new customer report from scratch, getting it to interact with the Azul RMS.

·  Session 15: Sunday, 19 September 2004.                 

-          Presentations on Azul Scheme for Unit Test Development, Delphi Report Builder and Open Source Mail Servers were made.

-          Content of the reports was discussed and the areas requiring clarification, elaboration or rectification for the next version were identified.

-          Work for the next fortnight was allocated.

 

 ·  Tuesday, 21 September 2004.  

Was advised by Alistair to continue with the Crystal Reporting work, as Aaron had some tasks for me using Report Builder but was away on site for the day.

 ·  Friday, 24 September 2004.  

Continued consistently completing the scheduled number of Crystal reports. Since the project was drawing to a close, the Software Development Team decided that it would be more beneficial for me to continue with Crystal as opposed to starting something entirely new using Report Builder.

 ·  Tuesday, 28 September 2004.  

Began the process of putting the updated reports onto the Azul database, as per our proposal. Will require another whole day possibly, to get it completed.
