Tests and Exams: COMPSCI 230 Semester 1, City Campus

Page for tests, exams, model answers and marks.

Mid-semester test
  • S1 2015 test. Sample answers, version 2.1, posted 29 May 2015 with the correct answer to Question 28.
  • The midterm test for S1 2015 will be held 8-9:30pm on Tuesday 21 April in the Fisher-Paykel Auditorium (room 260-115). We will start the test as soon as possible after 8pm, however the prior occupants of the room may not clear it in time for us to set up for an 8pm start. Please review my email broadcast of 15 April (available via Cecil) for other information about the test.
  • If you are unable to sit the test at the scheduled time, please send an email to Clark explaining the reason why you are unable to sit the test at this time. If you have a legitimate reason, then he will make alternative arrangements for you.
  • Regrettably, it is not possible to run our mid-semester test during a normal lecture period, due to the large enrolment in this course, the shortage of large lecture halls, and the requirement to have an empty desk between each pair of students sitting the test.

What to do if you miss a test or exam
In the past, students have missed out on a whole semester of study, because they just went away or missed a test or an examination and did not report problems until they received the grade. If there is a problem that will affect your study, then you should inform someone as soon as possible.
  • If you miss the test or the exam for any valid reason or you sit the test or exam, but believe that your performance was impaired for some reason, then you may be able to apply for an aegrotat, compassionate pass or special pass consideration.
  • You MUST contact the Examinations Office within ONE WEEK of the affected examination, to apply for an aegrotat pass (for illness) or compassionate pass (other problems). THE ONE WEEK LIMIT IS STRICTLY ENFORCED.
  • Please read the examinations handbook that you will receive and double-check the examination timetable; some of this information is very important (particularly the exact time and venue).
  • Try to sit your examination or test, if at all possible, even if you do nothing much more than hand in an almost blank script.

Tests and Exams from Prior Years

Some tests from prior offerings of CompSci 230 are available through the Tests and Exams page of the S2 offering of this course. The University Library maintains a database of exam papers for this course, and for all other courses. These questions may help you study, however please note:

  • different instructors will cover somewhat different material, in somewhat different ways, in each of the four themes of this course, and
  • different instructors will examine you in different ways.

Instead of "studying to a test" (from a prior semester), you really should be studying the course material as it was taught this semester!
