little diversions

The ai-cbr crew spends quite a bit of time surfing the web. Here are our favourite sites -- at least for the time being.

sue franklin

Information Officer of ai-cbr: "Microsoft has had an enormous impact on how we present information, from web page design to white papers. My top web picks are links to some essential add-ons, all free from Microsoft."

TREBUCHET MS FONT: We've used Microsoft's Trebuchet font on ai-cbr. You can download just the Trebuchet font directly from ai-cbr; but I also recommend you visit MICROSOFT'S FREE CORE FONTS FOR THE WEB to get the full package of MS true type fonts (available for Win3.x, Win95/98 & 2000 and MAC).

MULTI-LANGUAGE PLUG-IN FOR INTERNET EXPLORER This set of plug-ins allows you to view web pages created in Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Pan-Euro. Essential if you surf as many Japanese language sites as I do!

ai-cbr Webmaster: "Go to these links now, ask questions later."

TUCOWS: Believe what they say in their logo -- this really is the "World's Best Collection of Internet Software." Most applications are freeware or shareware and TuCows has 280 mirror sites world-wide, so download times are negligible. TuCows rates every application they have on the site and I've found their ratings to be right on the money.

hIDAHO DESIGN COLOR PICKER: This is the first stop of every designer I know. You can select text, link and background colours and/or textures and see immediately how they'll look on a web page. The app is Java Script, so be sure your browser is capable.

THE HTML WRITERS GUILD: Prepare to be overwhelmed -- every issue of web design is covered. Tutorials are written in an easy to understand style, and the site is clearly laid-out so even the novice webmaster will have no problem finding & using the information they need. Every webmaster should have this indispensable site bookmarked.

ian watson

Director of ai-cbr: "These things all help me find useful stuff quickly. What more can I say!"

UK Map of Universities: this is damn useful if you're trying to find the email of that guy in Computer Science you met once from University College. I use this almost every day.

List of AI links: Roger Atkins at Exeter University maintains an excellent list of links to AI stuff all around the world - really useful.

If you're tired of being unable to find anything useful on the web and too busy to use ten different search engines, I suggest you give Inference Find™ a try.

Ever spent hours trying to find that web site that is bookmarked on you office computer when you're at home or using somebody else's computer? Zoom2it lets you keep all your bookmarks online so you can access them from anywhere and any computer. There are several of these bookmark service around but this one is quick and slick and has no adverts.
