FOOTNOTE

In keeping with ancient Maori tradition, a Hangi was held to welcome the distinguished guests to Salodays. About 50 people turned out to be given a traditional Maori welcome -- luckily no one was rejected.

The Hangi took place in a farmhouse with the sign ``Helensville Family Welfare Trust'', in Woodhill, just North of Waimauku, about 30 minutes North-West drive from Auckland.

The Hangi was cooked in truly traditional style by a Maori expert, Jack Porter, with a clay pit, stones heated by manuka wood, flax leaves, etc. (although wire baskets were used to hold the food instead of flax kits).
