Participant Accomodation ------------------------ For those who indicated that they wish to stay at O'Rorke Hall of Residence, the address is: 16 Mount Street Auckland Central Ph 3737599 ext 6913 (near the corner of Wakefield and Symonds Streets) They are able to welcome guests at any hour day or night. The office is open until 10 pm every night. After that there is a phone to use and someone will bring you a key. The O'Rorke Hall of Residence is approximately 5 mins walk from the conference venue (the Maths/Physics building, which is on the corner of Wellesley St and Princes St). For those who have booked to stay in Whitaker Lodge: * Whitaker Lodge at 21 Whitaker Place, Auckland (Tel. +64-9-3773623, FAX +64-9-3773621) Whitaker Place is a small street just off Symonds St (south and slightly uphill from the University), and about 5 minutes walk from the Maths/Physics building (which is on the corner of Wellesley St and Princes St). Transport In Auckland --------------------- Airport There are several companies running shuttle services to and from the Auckland International Airport, ie Airporter Express (door to door) 275-1234 Super Shuttle (door to door) 307-0500 Duty Free shopping is available both in the city and at the airport. Ferries The Fullers Gulf Fleet has a number of ferries available. You can go to Devonport (where there are a number of restaurants, bars and speciality shops), Pakatoa Island, Rangitoto Island, (it is possible to get a trip which calls in on the way to Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World), Waiheke Island and Great Barrier Island. They depart from the Downtown Ferry Terminal. For enquiries, reservations and information phone Fullers on 373 3776. Public Transport There is a public bus service in Auckland. Several companies operate services running from suburban areas into and out of the city. The main city service is operated by the Yellow Bus Company, and the telephone number to contact regarding their routes is Buz-A-Bus 366-6400. Timetables are available from the Downtown Bus Station Information Centre (between Commerce Street and Britomart Place), and there is also an office on the corner of Victoria and Hobson Streets. To access information on services operated by other companies, refer to the Yellow Pages of the Telephone Directory. Taxis Alert Taxis 309-2000 Auckland Taxis 300-3000 Citicabs 379-9199 Flagfall is normally around $2.00 and some companies will charge an extra $1.00 for a phone call or extra luggage. Charges are not uniform from one company to another. University Campus Information ----------------------------- Banking The Bank of New Zealand has a branch on campus which is open from 9.00 am - 4.30 pm weekdays. Staff will be pleased to assist with any of your currency requirements and banking needs. Location: Next to Pharmacy behind Old Arts Building. A branch of the ASB bank is located in Princes Street, next to Albert Park, opposite the Old Arts Building, and it is open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. In addition, there is a branch of the National Bank at 19A Princes Street (a converted synagogue). Library Most computer science, mathematical and statistical books are found in the Science Library on the 1st floor of the Sciences Building. The main library at the city campus is located in Alfred Street. Shops on Campus: Alumni Association The Alumni Association which sells university memorabilia is found in the north-east corner of Old Government House grounds. Bookshop A Bookshop is located in the Student Union Building. Students purchase many of their texts from this bookshop, but you are able to purchase other stationery items as well. Chemist/Pharmacy/Postal Branch There is a chemist/pharmacy located next to the BNZ Bank. The chemist shop also will meet most of your postal needs. There is no Post Office on campus.
