Welcome to Human Computer Interaction (HCI). For computer users the interface 'is' the system and for the 'average' system over half the code is entirely about managing the user interaction. This makes HCI an important area of study and research within Computer Science. As you will find during the course, HCI encompasses everything from designing a web page like this to developing Virtual Reality environments! We often combine knowledge from psychology, design and computer science.

Lectures: There are 3 lectures a week for this class (check them on Student Services Online)

• Tuesday 9am-10am in MLT1
• Thursday 11am-12am in MLT1
• Friday 10am-11am in PLT1

Tutorials: From week 2 there will be seven lots of one hour lab/tutorial sessions each week. Approximately the same material will be covered in each session. You are expected to attend one of these sessions each week.

There is no required textbook in 2013. We will draw material from a number of sources including previous years' text books (below), both of which are available from the library on short loan. The lectures page will have links to appropriate material.

Q: What programming language will we be using?
A: Our implementation project for 2013 will be browser based. You will be allowed to use any language that will run in a standard browser

Q: Where are the lecture recordings?
A: All lecture recordings are in Cecil. In the resources section you can download the slides and access the 'Streaming media' of the recording. In the announcements there are also the links to download a particular lecture.
