The Descent Of (1) Man1

Being a scholarly Treatife on the Myfterious Origins
and diverfe Ufes of that character known as Jasvir Nagra.

Abstract
In this treatise we describe the shenanigans of a spritely young rapscallion named Jasvir Nagra pursing a PhD in watermarking and software obfuscation with Clark Thomborson and Christian Collberg. The details of his origins are largely unknown, however it is widely speculated that he was born in a small Fijian village, clutching a keyboard in one hand and life-user manual in the other. Since neither of these have helped him in Life, he spends much of his time alternately playing squash, reading and saving boxed cats from mad Physics thought experiments.

1 INTRODUCTION
There is an idea in Zen Buddhism that using words to describe reality is a pretty futile thing to do. The idea hints at the fact that words are never sufficient to completely capture an idea, whilst being just sufficient enough to give you the mistaken impression of having captured it. Presumably, this implies if you think you understand what I mean, you are mistaken. As no doubt I was when I read it, since I did read it.

However, I stand Unenlightened and words are the only beasts I have to tell you about me. So I'll use them. Here is the most honest thing I have to say about me: its nice to really understand stuff. That's it. That's honest. I will say a lot more, but everything else here is probably not entirely, one hundred percent, purely and absolutely true. Everything else probably has exceptions. Everything else probably has exceptions I have not even thought of.

For instance, if I tell you "I love chocolates" - that's true. Except white chocolates. Except I like white chocolates in cookies. Unless, they're ginger nut and chocolate cookies... . And so on. Words are just not spacious enough to contain all meaning so meaning leaks out and stains. But I will try.

2 WATERMARKING
I like to think of watermarking as "leaving secret and indelible marks in media one authors/owns so that one can prove one's authorship/ownership to others." My interest lies mostly with software watermarking - the problems involved are gnarly and in my opinion quite different from those involved in image and audio. Its a good game and I am just learning the rules. If someone has a enigma wrapped in a riddle to spare, feel free to share it - I think I may finally have found a use for them.

3 PASTIMES
In my spare time, I like to play squash and one day, I might even be good at it. I am not holding my breath though. Occasionally, I enjoy a game of chess although its hard to admit to liking a game your younger, more dashing brother can trash you at. =)

When the mood takes, I poke around the web and these sites are

among the regulars:
In my spare time, I get my kicks hacking up nifty emacs lisp and the more gnarly variety of perl modules. As is fashionable these days, I also gallivant and monoverse.

4 KEEPING UP APPEARANCES
I am somewhat camera shy but in case you really want to know what I look like, here is a action shot of me running. It is only a schematic but it captures the essential idea.

5 CONCLUSION
This webpage got generated because I was told what was here originally2 did not appear scholarly enough. This was successfully remedied by replacing it with the monstrosity that you are now looking at. The side effect of using so many words as fillers between what is essentially a link farm is that I can momentarily appear to take my self seriously. Are you really still reading?
