Admission requirements
The first step in applying for a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science is to check your eligibility for admission.
The official academic criteria for admission can be found in the 2011 PhD Statute & Guidelines.
International students will also have to meet the University's English language requirements.
To be admitted to our PhD Programme:
- You must have
completed the requirements for the award of a Master's degree with First Class or Second Class (division I) Honours at The University of Auckland
OR
completed the requirements for the award of a BSc (Computer Science) with First Class or Second Class (division I) Honours at The University of Auckland,
OR
completed all the taught course work requirements for a Masters degree of The University of Auckland at the equivalent of First Class or Second Class (division I) Honours level, and have made substantial progress towards completion of the Master's research thesis,
OR
completed the requirements for the award of a qualification that the Board of Graduate Studies considers to be equivalent to a Master's degree with First Class or Second Class (division I) Honours or a Bachelor's degree with First Class or Second Class (division I) Honours from The University of Auckland, and
- You must have successfully undertaken a substantial research project, culminating in a publication-quality research document such as a Masters thesis.
- A member of our academic staff, who is willing to supervise your PhD research, must support your application.
- If your native language is not English, you must have demonstrated a satisfactory level of proficiency in the English language according to the The University of Auckland English language requirements for international students.
Candidates registered for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at another university who wish to complete at The University of Auckland are required to withdraw from registration at the other university and to provide the Board of Graduate Studies with a statutory declaration concerning the nature and extent of the research done and the supervision at the other university.
We strongly recommend that all overseas students obtain a student visa before entering New Zealand.
