Admission steps
- Check to see if you meet the admission requirements. You can find the requirements under "Admission" in the University Calendar.
- Select the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science when you apply for admission to the University.
- Send an email expressing your interest in the BSc(Hons) along with your ID number and your academic transcript to the Honours Coordinator. (Email: HonoursCoordinator@cs.auckland.ac.nz)
- All Honours students are required to complete a 30-point dissertation (COMPSCI 789) for which you will need to find a supervisor.
- Obtain the approval for your course selection and supervisor from the Honours Coordinator on an Approval for BSc(Hons) Enrolment Form (146KB PDF)
- When the Honours Coordinator and the Faculty of Science have approved your application, you will receive an offer of a place on Student Services Online. This step could take a week or two.
- Accept your offer and enrol yourself in the courses you have chosen. You should enrol in COMPSCI 789A in your first semster and COMPSCI 789B in your second. You may be waitlisted initially, but you will be enrolled by the Enrolment Administrator. (Email: enrolment@cs.auckland.ac.nz)
How to find a supervisor:
- Check out the staff research interests
- Select something from the postgraduate research topics
- To see what kind of topics staff members are inclined to supervise have a look at some completed graduate theses.
Email your prospective supervisor with the following information:
- Why you are contacting them
- A copy of your academic transcript
- A proposed area of interest
- Your ID number
At the beginning of semester, the department hosts an orientation session to the honours programme. Students are encouraged to read through the information presented at this session.

IMPORTANT NOTE: A maximum enrolment of 160 points is permitted for this programme. This means that if you fail more than two courses, your honours programme will be discontinued.
