We need a technical support person/developer who has all round technical skills, so they can:
- install and configure standard systems e.g. install OS, database, BIRT
- develop/write BIRT reports
- learn how to install/configure a US-based software product (where the key skill is SQL, and some simple scripting)
Technical skills:
- basic operating system skills: Windows (W7) and Linux skills - know how to install and configure
- basic database skills: MS SQL server (2008) and Oracle server (11g) - know how to install and configure
- good SQL skills: for use with BIRT
- report writing with: BIRT skills 2.6.2 (http://eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/)
Key general characteristics:
- communication - excellent command of English and very good written English
- intelligent - a good academic record, quick learner
- located in central Auckland i.e. not too far from our Mt Eden office
Able to work:
- approx 15 hours a week throughout the year
- possibly more over the University vacation periods
- predominantly based at our Mt Eden office location
- as an independent contractor i.e. not employee/PAYE. They do not have to be GST registered (but OK if they are)

Our Company is a part of global organisation providing solutions to enhance the quality, comfort and security in homes and commercial properties. We require a contractor for generalist desktop and helpdesk IT support. For further information about the company please visit www.ingersollrand.com.
A broad outline of support required:
- Provide first and second level IT support for desktop and laptop users nationally.
- Utilise the Company’s global helpdesk system; remedy to resolve and track user issues.
- Install new software and set up desktop computers and laptops.
- Maintain/update IT documentation (eg Network diagrams, asset lists).
- Coordinate backup process.
- Support for Linux based ERP system; MFG/pro.
- Assist with IT project implementation as necessary.
- Assist with LAN/WAN infrastructure as necessary.
- Help users with smart phone issues.
Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications required:
- Completed or in-progress (2nd year+) IT/CompSci qualification or similar.
- Good to expert knowledge of PC hardware, including laptops, desktops and thin clients.
- Good to expert understanding of Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Average to good knowledge of TCP/IP LAN technology.
- Ability to use Microsoft Visio to create/maintain diagrams.
Beneficial experience:
- Active Directory.
- Helpdesk support.
- WAN and internet technologies.
- Windows Server environment.
- Remote access support.
- Redhat Linux support.
- Smart phone support.
