- What grade point average I should get in Part I to assure me a place in the second year of BTech?
- I got a D in one of my second year papers. Can I re-sit the paper next year? Can I continue with my third year?
-
I got a D+ in one of my second year papers. Do I automatically
get a conceded pass?
If it is not deemed a core paper of the programme and if it is the one and only paper you failed during the academic year, then you will get a conceded pass for the paper.
- I like to fast-track my BTech. Am I allowed to take summer school papers?
- Is it possible to change my major from BE to BTech (IT)? Will I get any credit for those papers I have passed as part of BE?
- What are the complementary papers?
- Can I take English Language Acquisition A and B as my electives?
-
How do I calculate my grade point average, or GPA?
For each paper, you multiply the number of points for that paper and the numerical value of the grade you got for that paper. Sum these values for all the papers you have taken (say, for the semester) and divide by the sum of points for all the papers you have taken. This gives you the GPA.
The following table lists the numerical values for all the grades:
Grade Numerical Value A+ 9 A 8 A- 7 B+ 6 B 5 B- 4 C+ 3 C 2 C- 1 D+ 0 Conceded pass (CP) 0 Example: Sam Smith got an A+ in Calculus II, B- in Computing Systems, C- in Chemistry, and A- in Psychology in the second semester of first year. All of the papers are of 2 points each. Sam's GPA for the second semester is (9*2 + 4*2 + 1*2 + 7*2) divided by (2+2+2+2).

BTech programme. Who do I contact?
You need to contact enrol@auckland.ac.nz to get your qualifications assessed. The International Office has plenty of useful information for international students.
If you are qualified for entrance into the University, you may apply to enrol in the first year of BTech (IT), although some papers are subject to selection.
You need to have an B+ average, and pass all your papers in the first year.
No, you cannot continue with the BTech. You need to transfer your programme to a BSc. However, in exceptional circumstances, the BTech BoS could allow you to re-sit the exam, and continue with the BTech.
Yes, but keep in mind there are not many papers offered in the summer school.
Yes. You may be able to get credits for some of the BE papers if those papers are equivalent to those prescribed in the BTech schedule.
These are papers offered outside the Science faculty and the ISOM department.
If English is your second language, you are strongly encouraged to take these papers. However, they cannot be counted as electives.
