Milford Sound

Milford Sound is in the south west of the South Island. Statistically, it rains 182 days a year at Milford Sound, and I shot the image on a nice sunny day in February 2007. - This picture (shown here at reduced resolution) was taken with a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7.

In Maori, Milford Sound is known as Piopiotahi, meaning `first native trush'. When Maui lost the treasure of immortality to the goddess of death, Hine-nui-te-Po, a thrush flew to this place to sorrow for the death of its mate.
